This is my 250th blog post. I have no idea how many people will read it. I know exactly why I wrote it.
I am sitting here in Starbucks reflecting on the journey that brought me to this milestone. I think about the person who started this blog more than ten years ago. He was eager to write, willing to take creative risks, and determined to find his voice as an innovator, author, and speaker. That person has changed over the years. Today, I find myself in the twilight of my career in education, carrying mixed feelings about a profession I have devoted much of my life to serving. I am still searching for my bandmates, navigating new possibilities, and looking ahead with gratitude, curiosity, and hope.
The number 250 represents something much larger than another entry on my website. These posts have become a growing body of work reflecting my love of music, my passion for leadership, my curiosity about the world, and my ongoing journey of discovering who I am as a writer and creator. Somewhere along the way, I stopped seeing each post as an isolated piece of writing. I began recognizing something larger taking shape. This collection of stories, memories, reflections, and ideas has become a record of my journey, one that I hope offers something meaningful to others along the way.
This blog has also been my creative studio. It is where I have experimented with ideas, discovered connections, and found meaning through reflection. Many of the ideas that eventually became my first book, The Pepper Effect, took shape in this space. Now, as I work toward completing my second book, Leadership Riffs, I find myself returning to this same creative studio to explore ideas, develop my voice, and make sense of the experiences that shape my thinking. My hope is that this space has also encouraged others to reflect, create, and discover meaning in their own journeys.
For the past 43 days, I have committed to writing and publishing a blog post every day. What began as a way to keep my writing muscles limber while finishing Leadership Riffs has become a daily practice of discovery. Some days, I write about an album or a song that takes me back to a particular moment in my life. Other days, I reflect on leadership, creativity, connection, or the simple act of showing up. Each post offers another opportunity to explore something that matters to me and perhaps resonates with someone else.
Of course, the creative journey comes with its share of uncertainty. Some posts receive attention and spark conversations. Others disappear into the digital silence. I have experienced both, and I would be less than truthful if I said that the silence never hurts. Over time, however, I have come to a greater sense of peace with the unpredictable nature of sharing creative work. I cannot control how many people read a post or respond to an idea. I can only continue to write with sincerity and trust that something I share might reach someone at just the right moment. I may never know when that happens, but I believe in the possibility.
My beloved Beatles offer a fitting reminder through Rubber Soul. That remarkable album was not their final destination. It was another chapter in an extraordinary creative journey, one that opened the door to even greater experimentation and discovery. Every finished work creates the possibility of a new beginning. I see that same possibility each time I press Publish.
I also think about how Frank Zappa viewed his vast musical catalog as interconnected parts of a larger creative work. There is something about that idea that resonates with me. I see these 250 posts as songs in a growing discography. Some are personal favorites. Others are experiments, reflections, or deep cuts that may find their audience someday. Each contributes something to the larger story. Together, they represent a body of work that continues to evolve as I do.
I do not know where this growing body of work will lead. Perhaps it will open doors to new collaborations, friendships, and opportunities. Perhaps a future reader will discover an old post and find encouragement, inspiration, or a meaningful connection. I am proud of the discipline that has brought me here and the vulnerability that comes with sharing my thoughts so openly. I am grateful for the people who have read, listened, responded, and encouraged me along the way. Most importantly, I remain hopeful that something I have written has made a difference for someone.
The next post is waiting. The possibilities ahead include the next collaboration, the next book, the next song that sparks a memory, and perhaps the next bandmate. I still believe the most meaningful thing I will ever write may be waiting for me.
Thank you for your support and for spending a little time here at my homemade blog site. My hope is that something I have shared brings a little meaning, inspiration, or connection to your day.
250 posts. I’m still here. I’m still writing. I’m still hopeful.
